Medieval history to be celebrated at Guernsey's Castle Cornet
Islanders will be treated to an annual summer fete in a celebration of Castle Cornet's medieval history on Fete d'Etai, which is Guernesiais for "summer festival", takes place between 10.00 and 17.00 BST and will offer visitors live music, living history and children's and learning manager, Jo Dowding, said "variety" was the theme for this year's fete. For the first time, there will also be a film screening of How To Train Your Dragon (2010).Castle Cornet is an 800-year-old castle situated at St Peter Port harbour, offering panoramic views and an insight into hundreds of years of island history.
Ms Dowding said: "Variety is the theme for this year's fete, where visitors can see medieval weapons smashing up melons, followed directly by a brilliant modern film about dragons."Anyone attending the day in medieval dress will be admitted free of charge, she said.

Activities at Castle Cornet's medieval day include:A small medieval camp, set up by Jersey group members from The Duke's Leopards, featuring a cooking area, games and the opportunity to explore recipes from the medieval periodThe Knight School, between 12:15 and 14:15 BST, offering younger members to show off their talents, with families invited to take part in a special Robin-Hood style questEntertainment in the form of sword fights, and displays of weapons and armour will be offered by a live action role play groupArts and crafts activities, including the opportunity to learn about weaving and try the ancient art of the lucetLive music around the castle
